The Cotswolds

The Cotswolds is an area of England about the size of greater Tokyo and Oxford Country Cottages sit right on the edge of the Cotswolds.

Popular with both the English themselves and visitors from all over the world, the Cotswolds are well-known for gentle hillsides (‘wolds’), sleepy villages and for being so ‘typically English’.

Local Pubs

The Abingdon Arms in Beckley is our closest and preferred pub. It’s an affordable country pub with a great beer garden only 20 minutes walk across the fields from here. Currently Closed due to awaiting new Ownership, will keep you posted!!

The Bell at Hampton Poyle offers exceptional food at sensible prices (lunch & early supper 2 courses for £10!). It’s smart but relaxed in a traditional country pub.

The Talkhouse in Stanton St.John is a beautiful family run gastro pub.

In Murcott, on the other side of Otmoor from us, we are lucky enough to have The Nut Tree Inn – it has the added bonus of a Michelin star!

Otmoor – a stone’s throw from Oxford Country Cottages

View footage of Starlings on Otmoor shot from behind the cottages. As mentioned in the clip the reserve was farmed (by Lower Farm and sold to the RSPB by the previous owners of Lower Farm).

We are the ideal Location!! – Oxford Country Cottages back onto RSPB Otmoor.

The road through the ancient village of Noke is a mile long descent onto the marsh plain of Otmoor, a magical RSPB nature reserve of wet meadows and reedbeds, where you will find the final habitation in the village and at the end of a no-through road – Oxford Country Cottages at Lower Farm which backs onto Otmoor.

Otmoor is a haven in winter for thousands of ducks, such as teal and wigeon, and in spring and summer for breeding wading birds, such as lapwings and redshanks. The reedbed hosts a spectacular starling roost during the winter months, which is well worth a visit to see.

We strongly recommend you take this unique opportunity during your stay to explore the 1000 acres on your doorstep which offers a variety of wonderful, tranquil walks, where you can listen to the unusual calls of the birds and spot plenty of frolicking hares enjoying this un-spoilt area of out-standing natural beauty.
